I got some great responses. Thanks a lot to all who replied. Dave McGraw suggested the simplest solution, namely to copy the field into one with the specified width and then recalculate it, but I always tend to look for the quickest way, as I think we all do. Joseph Howell also suggested copying the field, but he also mentioned that there is a script in the help files for copying and redefining a field. He's also modified this script to better suite his needs. Lee Pinney suggested something I also thought of, but I wanted to have something I could use in ArcView and finish the job there. For those of you who have the funds, Dennis Wann suggested the extension PowerStructure, which you can purchase at the following site: http://www.benchmarkgis.com/extensions.htm Paula Lopes told me about the extension called "Compiled Table Tools" on the ArcScripts page, which has an abundance of tools, too many to mention and definitely worth taking a look at. The last extension was mailed to me by Nick Seigal. This extension is called Table Wizard and works great, by copying the fields automatically and resizing them before calculating the values. Thanks again to all of those who replied.
